Dr. Tanuj Nakra was born in London, England and grew up in St. Louis, Missouri where his physician parents were on the faculty at Washington University Medical School.  He graduated with top honors from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in biology and a minor in fine arts.  While attending medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago, he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the honor society for top medical school graduates.  After completing a transitional internship at St. Francis Hospital in Chicago, he traveled to Los Angeles for ophthalmology residency training in the Department of Ophthalmology at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute.  There he received special recognition as a resident with the highest surgical skills.  He went on to complete a two-year fellowship in ophthalmic and facial plastic surgery at UCLA, which included extensive training at a private practice in Beverly Hills.  With a special interest in aesthetics, Dr. Nakra completed an additional year of fellowship training in cosmetic facial surgery in Santa Monica, California.  During this time, Dr. Nakra was a faculty member at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute and built a private practice in Santa Barbara.  He then moved his family from Los Angeles to Austin to join Texas Oculoplastic Consultants. 

Dr. Nakra has traveled nationally and internationally to lecture and has a strong interest in clinical research and teaching.  He has also volunteered his skills to provide reconstructive surgery for children in Guatemala.  He is active in several medical organizations including the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. 

Dr. Nakra has a passion for drawing, painting and sculpture.  He also is an accomplished guitar and bass guitar performer.  He and his wife, Nidhi, have a daughter.
